Lisa Murkowski Shows Pelosi What Solemn Really Means, Still Decides to Acquit Trump

In Senator Murkowski’s (R-AK) solemn speech on the Senate floor last evening she said she could not vote to convict President Trump. In contrast to Pelosi who kept saying this was a solemn and prayerful moment for the United States, yet Pelosi couldn’t help from smiling when the articles of impeachment passed in the House. Pelosi also had special pens for her signing of the articles of impeachment, Murkowski was genuine.

Murkowski first takes on the House’s impeachment process saying “The House rushed through what should be one of the most serious, consequential undertakings of the legislative branch simply to meet an artificial, self-imposed deadline.

Murkowski also hit on both Democrats and Republicans “The House failed in its responsibilities, and the Senate should be ashamed by the rank partisanship that has been on display here,” she said on the Senate floor.

In her speech, Murkowski said “The President’s behavior was shameful and wrong.  His personal interests do not take precedence over those of this great nation.  The president has the responsibility to uphold the integrity and honor of the office.  Not just for himself but for all future presidents.  Degrading the office, by actions or even name calling, weakens it for future presidents, and weakens our country.

Murkowski went after Senator Warren last week being quoted as saying “It has also become clear some of my colleagues intend to further politicize this process, and drag the Supreme Court into the fray, while attacking the Chief Justice. I will not stand for nor support that effort. We have already degraded this institution for partisan political benefit, and I will not enable those who wish to pull down another”

Murkowski was thought to be a possible swing vote until she gave her speech on the Senate floor which confirmed she would be voting to acquit President Trump. She had previously voted against the ObamaCare repeal and also against confirming Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh.

“The structure we built should have been sufficient, but the foundation upon which it rested was rotten.” It seems with that statement by Murkowski she is disappointed with congress and the whole process of this partisan impeacment. Murkowski closed her speech with “At some point – for our country – winning has to be about more than just winning – or we will all lose.” You can read the full speech here.
