Man Accused of Stabbing 8 on Vegas Strip Told Telemundo He Needed a Job, Lost Home and Belongings Two Days Before Attack

Yoni Barrios, the man charged with stabbing 8 people, two of whom died, on the Las Vegas strip, was in Los Angeles days before the attack.

Video from Telemundo 52, shows Barrios soliciting for a job and explaining he had just recently lost his home and his belongings.

A cameraman for Telemundo 52, Jorge Lopez, recorded Barrios on Tuesday. “He kept telling me, ‘I just want an opportunity, I just want to start from scratch,” Lopez said.

After Barrios was arrested and made the news, Lopez then realized he had videoed the alleged attacker who allegedly stabbed many outside a casino with a 12-inch knife.

Barrios had asked the women for a photo, one of the showgirls was uncomfortable and backed away. He then allegedly stabbed one of the showgirls in the back as well as another showgirl and then ran down the strip looking for people to stab to “let the anger out,” according to police.

Barrios is a Guatemalan national who has a criminal record in California. Before the attack, he had gone to the Wynn and asked a janitor about jobs. He also told a casino security guard he was trying to sell knives he kept in a suitcase to raise enough money to go back home.

Two women died as a result of their injuries from the attack, Brent Allan Hallett 47 a resident of Las Vegas, and Maris Mareen DiGiovanni 30 one of the showgirls.

Barrios has been charged with two counts of murder with a deadly weapon and six counts of attempted murder.

Some outlets have also reported the man is an illegal immigrant.
