Manchin Responds to White House Press Release, ‘They Figured… We Can Badger and Beat One Person’ into Submission

On Monday, U.S. Sen Joe Manchin (D-WV) responded to the press release put out by the White House in response to his decision to not support Biden’s Build Back Better bill. The statement came from White House press secretary, Jen Psaki.

The White House was surprised by Manchin on Sunday when he notified them 30 minutes before his interview with Fox News, that he could not support the bill. Manchin said the statement from the White House was their retaliation saying, “I figured they would come back strong,” on Talkline with Hoppy Kercheval.

In the statement from the White House, Psaki promises they will, “continue to press him to see if he will reverse his position yet again, to honor his prior commitments and be true to his word.”

The statement also continues that, “the plan is fully paid for, is the most fiscally responsible major bill that Congress has considered in years, and reduces the deficit in the long run.” To which many outsiders do not believe, as it promises to cut things that no one believes will ever be stopped and seems to only be creative marketing of a massive spending bill. A punch line the White House is desperate to sell to the American People.

Psaki then seems to be trying to rile up those who have already been harassing Manchin.

“Senator Manchin will have to explain to those families paying $1,000 a month for insulin why they need to keep paying that, instead of $35 for that vital medicine. He will have to explain to the nearly two million women who would get the affordable day care they need to return to work why he opposes a plan to get them the help they need. Maybe Senator Manchin can explain to the millions of children who have been lifted out of poverty, in part due to the Child Tax Credit, why he wants to end a program that is helping achieve this milestone—we cannot.”

Manchin explains his view on the anger coming from the White House and other Democrats, “They figured, surely to God, we can move one person, surely we can badger and beat one person, that’s — surely we can get enough protesters to make that person uncomfortable enough. Well, guess what? I’m from West Virginia. I’m not from where they’re from, and they can just beat the living crap out of people and think they’ll be submissive. Period.”

It appears that the White House isn’t giving up on their Build Back Better plan and will continue to hound Manchin to try to get him on board. If that doesn’t work, they will try to inspire Democrats from around the country to continue to harass the senator where they cannot.
