Mark Levin Calls Out 5 Potential GOP Weak Links in Trump Impeachment Senate Trial

In an epic rant by Mark Levin on last night’s episode of Hannity on Fox News, Levin makes a very scary point that all Republicans including President Trump should be wary of, in addition to many other points. Levin, after ranting about his perception of Democrat hypocrisy, calls out 5 Republican GOP US Senators who could be weak links, or possible votes against Trump, in the upcoming impeachment trial. The five names pointed out by Levin are as follows:

  • Senator Mitt Romney (R-UT)
  • Senator Cory Gardner (R-CO)
  • Senator Susan Collins (R-ME)
  • Senator Lisa Murkowski (R-AK)
  • Senator Lamar Alexander (R-TN)

These Senators will likely be getting a lot of pressure from Senate Majority leader Mitch McConnell to vote no to find President Trump guilty in the upcoming impeachment trials. Despite this, Republican wild cards have been prominent lately, and often one might wonder if they are truly looking to be “principled”, looking for some back door deal to be made for them, or just bucking the trend to please their moderate constituencies. Regardless, it will be pertinent to Trump supporters who do not want President Trump impeached (and removed) to contact these Senators and let them know what they think. See video below:

Senator Alexander, who Levin had trouble remembering for a split second during his spitfire rant in the video shown above, has a tweet video highlighting the need to be fair in the Senate trial.

“Just because the House of Representative was a circus, doesn’t mean the senate needs to be”, Lamar starts off in his clip. But then he goes on and says, “that means we’re going to hear the case, not dismiss it, number one, number two, we’re going to ask our questions and get answers through the chief justice, and then number three, we’ve been guaranteed a right to vote on whether we think need additional evidence such as witnesses or documents.” He closes the short Twitter clip by saying, “This fundamentally follows the Clinton impeachment model, which was adopted 100 to 0 when that trial was going on, and it should assure the American people that we’re giving the articles from the House of Representatives a full hearing.” LocalMemphis.com reported on Alexander’s squishy stance:

At the moment, most of the 53 Republican Senators seem content to skip witnesses and relevant documents. But four Republicans are open to hearing from witnesses. One of them is Alexander. And he just might be the deciding vote on the issue.

In statements this week, Alexander was emphatic that he opposes simply dismissing the two articles of impeachment without hearing from anyone. And he clearly signaled a willingness to having witnesses, including Trump’s former national security advisor John Bolton.

Alexander’s stance, I believe, is easy to understand. Unlike some, he’s not worried about his next election. And unlike others, he respects the Constitution and the rule of law. But mostly, I believe Alexander cares deeply about how he will be viewed in history.

The reference to possibly needing more evidence or witnesses in a case that most Republicans believe to be a sham could be another reason why Levin calls out Alexander in particular. The other four Senators, in addition to any recent comments they might have made, have a history of being soft, and failed presidential candidate Mitt Romney, in particular, is one to watch.

He has had an extraordinary on again off again love-hate relationship with President Trump, who he has been very critical of, even after receiving Trump’s endorsement for his US Senate seat in the deep-red state of Utah. Garner likely has to appeal to a moderate base in his Colorado home, which is a purple state at best, and Murkowski and Collins seem to be wild cards in almost every controversial vote.
