Mayra Flores Calls for Alejandro Mayorkas to be Next After Forced Resignation of CBP Chief Chris Magnus

Customs and Border Protection Cheif Chris Magnus has resigned under pressure from DHS Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas according to reports. Congresswoman Mayra Flores calls for Mayorkas to be next.

“Customs and Border Protection Chief Chris Magnus resigns. Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas should be next.”

Last week it was reported that CBP Chief Chris Magnus was refusing to resign and his duties had been shifted to other officials.

Politico reported that on Wednesday Mayorkas told Magnus he must resign or be fired. They shared that according to four people he was refusing to step down.

Magnus had been at odds with immigration officials on how to handle the invasion of illegal immigrants crossing America’s southern border.

With the pressure put on by Mayorkas and the shifting of his duties to other officials, Magnus gave his resignation.

With millions of illegal immigrant crossings recorded over the past two years, it may appear to some that America is facing a silent invasion of sorts.

Republicans have been calling on CBP to secure the border. September CBP reported 230,000 encounters with illegal immigrants at the southern border, almost a quarter of a million in one month alone.

Some House Republicans sent Biden a letter urging that Magnus resign after Politico reported in October that Magnus was unengaged in his job and was failing to even appear at White House meetings on the southern border situation. Politico’s sources also shared that Magnus was not building relationships with other agencies and instead had only negative things to say about them.

Flores now wants to see DHS Secretary Mayorkas follow Magnus out the door. She is not alone in those in Congress calling for changes with DHS over the border.

That doesn’t seem likely as Mayorkas appears to be the only member of the Biden Administration who will actually visit the border. We will see what happens next with the crisis at the border.
