McCarthy Vows to Introduce a Resolution to Remove Swalwell From the House Intel Committee After Reappointment

The House Intelligence Committee is typically one of the last to formally assemble each Congress and today, the selections from each party were announced.

House Rep Eric Swalwell (D-CA) was reportedly reappointed to the committee by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-CA), as he is the Chair of the Intelligence Modernization and Readiness Subcommittee which oversees overall management of the Intelligence Community.

Swalwell has been under fire due to his previous relationship with Christine Fang, who according to a report in Axios helped fundraise for Swalwell during his 2014 reelection campaign and place an intern inside his office before leaving the country in 2015 amid a federal investigation into her actions.

House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) vowed to introduce a resolution to remove Swalwell from the committee, arguing he is a national security threat due to his former ties with the alleged Chinese spy.

In a tweet, McCarthy said, “Pelosi just reappointed Eric Swalwell to the Intelligence Committee. Based on the briefing she and I received together, Swalwell should not be on the panel in charge of guarding our nation’s secrets.”

“Next week, I will offer a resolution to remove him from the Intel Committee,” McCarthy added.

Swalwell took aim himself at McCarthy in a tweet yesterday, claiming that McCarthy’s viral video where he read Dr Seuss’ “Green Eggs and Ham” aloud was the first time the Minority Leader has ever read a book.

McCarthy had been critical of the $1.9T COVID ‘Relief Bill’ and suggested that most Americans hadn’t read it. Swalwell implied that they had and that McCarthy didn’t know what most Americans read.
