Mitch McConnell Censured by Alaska GOP For Providing ‘Significant Financial Support’ For Lisa Murkowski’s Re-election

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) was censured yesterday by the Alaska GOP for providing “significant financial support” for the re-election of U.S. Senator Lisa Murkowski (R-AK).

While Murkowski calls herself a Republican and caucuses with the party, she has not been endorsed by the Alaska GOP in this year’s election.

The resolution by the Alaska GOP noted that on Oct. 10, they issued a statement of support for their endorsed candidate, Kelly Tshibaka.

Tshibaka has also been endorsed by former President Donald Trump, although she has been trailing in the polls and with the ranked choice voting system, it is likely that Democrats will put Murkowski as their number two on the ballot.

The final vote on the resolution came to 49-8 in favor of the censure of McConnell and the minority leader’s Senate Leadership Fund (SLF) which has spent more than $5 million to prop up Murkowski.

The party requested that the Senate Leadership Fund “immediately stop the attack ads against Kelly Tshibaka and discontinue the support of all other opposing candidates.”

Murkowski was censured in March of last year “for her votes and actions contrary to the Alaska Republican Party platform and best interests of the State of Alaska.”

Earlier this month, it was reported that a super PAC tied to McConnell alleges in a 30-second television ad that a Tshibaka may have committed fraud while working for the federal government.

Murkowski recently responded to a question on who she planned to rank first in the state’s U.S. House race and she responded by telling the reporter that she would rank the Democrat incumbant Mary Perolta first.
