Today, Moderna announced it has submitted a request to the FDA for emergency use authorization for its two-dose vaccine for children ages six months to six years of age. The vaccine shows an efficacy rate of 37% to 51% in children under the age of 6 years according to data released by Moderna’s KidCOVE study.
Moderna’s chief medical officer Paul Burton told ABC News, “I think for these little children, they really represent an unmet medical need. I would be hopeful that the review will go on quickly and rigorously — but if it’s approvable, this will be made available to these little children as quickly as possible.”
CBS Mornings shared their report on Twitter, “BREAKING NEWS: Moderna has submitted a request to the FDA for emergency use authorization of its two-dose vaccine, for children ages six months to six years old.”

Wednesday, ABC News reported on parents who are desperate to get their young children vaccinated against Covid. Many of these parents are living with fear as mask mandates have been lifted from public transportation.
A Portland, Oregon area mother of a two-year-old currently too young for the vaccine, Sarah Liebman, told ABC News, “I want you, Joe Biden, to call the FDA (US Food and Drug Administration) and tell them that they need to act with all possible speed because every day they delay there are children being infected and some of those children could die”.
Another mother outside of Philadelphia, Emmie Fital, is keeping her children home over the fear of possible hospitalization. Fital told ABC News, “We’ve been kind of living in Groundhog’s Day, every day for two years … It is ludicrous what we are having to deal with as parents right now.”
Within 24 hours Dr. Fauci announced the pandemic phase was over and then appeared to backtrack on his statement, declining to attend WH correspondence dinner over Covid risks. CDC mask mandate was recently overturned by a federal judge in Florida. Many are getting back to a more normal life, no longer staying home. With school soon to be out for the summer, many families want to travel.
While many parents want their children vaccinated for Covid, there are also many who see vaccinating their children as unnecessary. According to CDC data released yesterday, the number of fatalities attributed to Covid for those under the age of 18 is 789 since the start of the pandemic in 2020.
While parents may disagree on whether to vaccinate their children against covid or not, some parents just want the option.
