‘MTG’ Trashes Idea of January 6th Commission, Invokes Months of BLM Riots Largely Ignored Instead

Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) took to the House floor today to oppose the January 6th commission. She simply asks what about all the riots that happened in 2020 after the death of George Floyd?

The Recount tweeted, “Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) speaks against bipartisan commission to study the January 6 Capitol insurrection: “What about all the riots that happened during the summer of 2020 after the death of George Floyd?” with a clip from Greene’s speech.

Greene highlights the allegations of abuse of those who have been arrested after the Capitol was breached on January 6th. Greene then calls for a commission to study the violent BLM and Antifa Riots from last summer instead.

“Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA): “The people who breached the Capitol on January 6 are being abused.” In lieu of a bipartisan commission to study the January 6 Capitol insurrection, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) says there should be a commission to study “the violent BLM and antifa mobs.”

During her five-minute speech, Greene lists various BLM/Antifa riots that happened over the summer of 2020 and the costs incurred by the cities, businesses, and federal government. “Protests in Kansas City resulted in 2.1 million in damages… protests in Witchita Kansas cost the police department about 1.5 million in overtime.”

Greene also asks, “who killed Ashli Babbit?” her family deserves justice. She concludes her speech by asking “when will this witch hunt of Donald J Trump come to an end, and all of those who support him?”

Marjorie isn’t alone in opposing the 9/11 style commission on the January 6 commission, House Minority leader Kevin McCarthy issued a statement against it.

“Given the political misdirections that have marred this process, given the now duplicative and potentially counterproductive nature of this effort, and given the Speaker’s shortsighted scope that does not examine interrelated forms of political violence in America, I cannot support this legislation,” McCarthy wrote in the statement.
