Nadler Says House Judiciary Committee Will Open an Investigation Into US Attorney Firing

We reported earlier that Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer called for an investigation into the potential firing of Manhattan US Attorney Geoff Berman and House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jerry Nadler has answered the call.

Nadler said in a statement, “The House Judiciary Committee will immediately open an investigation into this incident, as part of our broader investigation into Barr’s unacceptable politicization of the Department of Justice.”

“On Wednesday, the Committee will hear from two whistleblowers who will explain why Barr’s attempt to fire Mr. Berman is part of a larger, ongoing, and wholly unacceptable pattern of conduct. If the President removes Mr. Berman, then we will take additional steps to secure his testimony as well,” he continued.

After initially pushing back against Barr, Berman has now said that he will step down from his position.

Berman said in a statement, “In light of” Barr’s decision “to respect the normal operation of law and have Deputy US Attorney Audrey Strauss become Acting US Attorney, I will be leaving the US Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York, effective immediately.”
