Today Bill Barr is testifying before the House Judiciary Committee and Chairman Jerry Nadler (D-NY) is attempting to paint a picture that Attorney General Barr doesn’t fully agree with. Nadler doesn’t think that recent rioting and looting around the country is a very big problem, except when it involves federal agents sent in by President Trump and AG Barr’s orders.
Jerry Nadler tried to get Bill Barr to admit to discussing the use of federal troops for ‘campaign ad footage’, to help President Trump’s re-election, which is a story the Democrats have concocted while appearing to be largely denying violence and damages caused by rioters and looters in towns such as Portland, OR, and Seattle, WA.
“Can you commit today that the department will not use federal law enforcement as a prop in the president’s re-election campaign?” Bill Barr Began his answer and Nadler just kept right on talking: “I just want to close with this thought. You really can’t hide behind legal fictions this time Mr. Barr.” Notice he called him ‘Mr. Barr’ and not Attorney General Barr that time… Nadler continued: “It’s all out in the open, where the people can see what you are doing for themselves. The president wants footage for his campaign ads, and you appear to be serving it up to him as ordered…”
Barr doesn’t really get a chance to respond until another House Judiciary member turns over some of his time back to the Attorney General to rebut Nadler’s claims after Nadler said “SHAME ON YOU MR. BARR, SHAME ON YOU”, in his ending.
Barr: “Mr. Chairman, you’ve conflated two different things. The effort like LeGend is to deal with violent crime. Crime that’s committed on the streets of the city, again, predatory violence like murder, shootings, which are soaring in some cities right now. That does not involve countering protesters as you refer to it. Civil disturbance is a different set of issues and I just reject the idea that the department has flooded anywhere and attempted to suppress demonstrators…”
At this point, Nadler interrupts… “the facts speak for themselves” he blurts out. Barr continues: “the fact of the matter is if you take Portland, the courthouse is under attack. The federal resources are inside the perimeter around the courthouse defending it from almost two months of daily attacks where people march to the court, try to gain entrance and have set fires, thrown things, used explosives and injured police including just this past weekend perhaps permanently blinding three federal officers with lasers. We are on the defense, we are not out looking for trouble, and if the state and the city would provide the law enforcement services that other jurisdictions do we would have no need to have additional marshals in the courthouse”.
