Nevada Man Who Beat 5-Year-Old Over TV Show Dispute Charged, Didn’t Call 911 Until Child was Deceased

Gerald Oglesby, 33 has been charged with the murder of his 5-year-old son, General Sema’j Oglesby. The child was found deceased early on the morning of March 16th.

Gerald admitted to beating his son when questioned by police. He told police that he beat his son repeatedly with an electrical cord and punched him in the stomach. The strike to the stomach was the fatal blow.

The child had been given a shower in between the beatings, Gerald put a slipper over his hand and punched the boy in the abdomen. According to the police report, “Gerald explained as soon as he struck (the child) in the abdomen, he knew he struck him too hard.”

The child then staggered over to the couch laid down and vomited. He then stopped breathing. Gerald claimed he did chest compressions on the boy then 911 was then called. Gerald told 911 the boy hadn’t been breathing for 13 minutes.

According to the arrest report, Gerald smoked a “marijuana cigarette” after punching the boy and then called 911.

The arrest report also states, “additional items recovered at the apartment and interviews completed with witnesses reveal (the child) may have been physically abused by Gerald at an earlier time frame the same day causing even more physical injury that (sic) was initially believed.”

A neighbor claimed to have heard repeated thumping noises for two hours on March 15th.

Gerald has previously been arrested and charged with multiple counts of domestic battery. He allegedly choked his girlfriend in front of her children in the living room of their apartment in 2020.

General’s grandmother said to reporters Thursday, “No family member should go through this. I got to get ready to bury him instead of getting ready to celebrate his life being 6.” General was one month shy of his 6th birthday.

The boy’s mother, Charlveena Veecee had been battling with the courts to see her son. Gerald had moved himself and the boy and was not sharing his new address with the mother. Court documents show the mother had not seen her son since February 3rd and claimed Oglesy had kidnapped him. She had only agreed to joint custody last year when the boy asked to see his father.
