Over a year after the fatal “Rust” shooting, New Mexico First Judicial District Attorney Mary Carmack-Altwies will announce tomorrow whether or not actor Alec Baldwin will face charges.
The decision will likely bring an end to the investigation into Baldwin over the 2021 Santa Fe County film-set shooting that killed movie director Halyna Hutchins.
According to a press release, the announcement will be made via a written statement to be shared with media by email and posted to the District Attorney’s official social media accounts.
District Attorney Mary Carmack-Altwies said that she and special prosecutor Andrea Reeb will be making the announcement together in the statement.
There will be no news conference or public appearances by my office, the statement announced.
Heather Brewer, the spokesperson for the office of the First Judicial District Attorney, said in the statement, “Regardless of the District Attorney’s decision, the announcement will be a solemn occasion, made in a manner keeping with the office’s commitment to upholding the integrity of the judicial process and respecting the victim’s family.”
In September 2022, Mary Carmack-Altwies announced that four individuals will be prosecuted for the shooting death.
The following month, Brewer announced in an email that Carmack-Altwies “received the Santa Fe County Sheriff’s investigative report on the Rust movie set incident.”
“The District Attorney and her team of investigators and prosecutors will now begin a thorough review of the information and evidence to make a thoughtful, timely decision about whether to bring charges,” Brewer added at the time.
