A new poll indicates that unless things improve, Democrats are in serious trouble less than three years away from the 2024 presidential election unless current President Joe Biden runs for re-elections.
In a hypothetical 2024 Trump-Harris race, a Harvard/HarrisX poll, conducted among 1,989 respondents between Nov. 30 and Dec. 2, found that Trump receives 50% support, Harris receives 41% support and 9% are unsure.
If Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg were to be the nominee, he would fare even worse, according to the results of the poll.
Trump receives 48% support, Buttigieg receives 37% and 15% are unsure, in a hypothetical 2024 matchup between the former president and Buttigieg.
If the then 82-year-old Biden were to be the nominee, the margin is slimmer and much less of a certainly, according to the poll, which is surprising amid inflation and ongoing supply chain issues.
In a Biden-Trump 2024 matchup, the poll found that Trump receives 48% support, Biden receives 45% support and 8% are unsure.
Harris appears to be the best that Democrats have to offer at the moment outside of Biden as she leads a hypothetical 2024 Democratic primary without Biden, with 31% support.
That field at this point also includes Buttigieg, Sens. Bernie Sanders, Cory Booker, Elizabeth Warren, Amy Klobuchar and Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez among others.
It seems that Democrats are still looking for the next Barack Obama to really unite and carry the party once Biden’s time is up, unless of course, his wife Michelle Obama were to run.
