In 2020, the Idaho legislature passed an abortion trigger law, making most abortions illegal (felonies) and allowing only in cases of rape, incest, and to save the mother’s life. Set to go into action on July 24th, 30 days after the Supreme Court judgment on Dobbs, which overturned Supreme Court decisions in Roe vs Wade and Casey.
A day after the Supreme Court decision, Boise PD shared on Twitter that they were not “planning on providing additional resources to investigate reports regarding abortion… and will follow the direction of our legal team”
Pending legal review and input from Boise City Council, Boise Police are not planning on providing additional resources to investigate reports regarding abortion. We understand that there are many strong feelings on this issue and will follow the direction of our legal team.(2/5)

This seems odd in a state as red as Idaho, but not when you look at who runs the city of Boise. Mayor Lauren McLean, who became Mayor of Boise in 2020, ran as a counter to the former Mayor Dave Bieter who is also a Democrat, but more moderate.
McLean convinced even some Republicans to vote for her, then she came to power and things seemed to change. Eventually, a campaign was started to recall McLean, which failed, however.
As of July 19th, McLean and two other city council members voted to pass a resolution that appears to make the city of Boise an abortion sanctuary city. The resolution proclaims the city won’t use resources to investigate claims of abortion.
McLean proudly took to Twitter to share the actions of the city council.
“Tonight we passed a resolution that we won’t use city resources to investigate claims of abortion. The extreme Idaho law erodes our residents’ rights, invades our privacy, and puts the health of many at risk. Boise won’t be a part of this. ~ LM”

McLean seems to be your typical Soros-connected politician, taking hold of the most extreme leftist agenda and running with it.
This past weekend Idaho GOP voted in a new Chairwoman, Dorothy Moon who is currently a member of the Idaho legislature. Moon released a statement today about the Boise City Council’s resolution. She then directed her message to Mayor McLean with, “Enforce the laws or come clean and tell the people you intend to govern through arbitrary whim and reckless “autonomous zones.” Your lawlessness may be what you learned in Portland but it is not welcome here in Idaho.” Moon’s full statement can be seen below.
This move by Moon shows she won’t hold back, pulling punches quickly after being voted in to lead the Idaho GOP. Many Republicans are happy to see someone leading the party who will take action and stand up to ideals the majority of the state does not condone.
“DOROTHY MOON STATEMENT ON THE BOISE CITY COUNCIL VOTE TO UNDERMINE IDAHO LAW
Democrats love to render principles essential to our self-governing republic as nothing more than glib catchphrases. But under my leadership of the Republican Party, “The Rule of Law” will not be another victim of their propaganda. Idaho is governed by fundamental law, as set out in the Idaho Constitution, and the legislature’s duly enacted statutes. No jurisdiction gets to arbitrarily exempt themselves from the law.
Mayor McLean: Enforce the laws or come clean and tell the people you intend to govern through arbitrary whim and reckless “autonomous zones.” Your lawlessness may be what you learned in Portland but it is not welcome here in Idaho.”
