Parents in Westchester County, NY Get Big Win After Resignation of Superintendent Pushing Anti-White CRT

Back in July, it was announced at a school board meeting that the superintendent of Lakeland Schools in New York, Dr. Brenden Lyons resigned. Save Our Schools (SOS) recently claimed it as a victory. This is very telling, as New York is very well known as a Democrat stronghold.

Christopher Rufo tweeted, “BREAKING: Parents in Westchester County, New York, have forced the resignation of Lakeland Schools superintendent Brendan Lyons, who had been pushing critical race theory in the curriculum. The revolt against critical race theory is winning—even in deep-blue New York.”

Yonker Times reported on SOS victory,

“Said Ms. Barone Sculti: “Today’s vote and announcement on the resignation of the superintendent affirms the efforts of the community members and parents who have been fighting for transparency to ensure that the children of Lakeland Central School District will not be indoctrinated.  I congratulate the 1,100 district residents who signed a petition against the teaching of Critical Race Theory in all of its various forms in Lakeland.

“Regrettably, the Superintendent failed to listen to the communities’ concerns and even denied what 1,100 community members understand – that implementing a radical teaching/learning paradigm — Critical Race Theory and its multiple forms, including, among others, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion; and Culturally Responsive-Sustaining Education will fundamentally change how our children think, learn, and make life-changing decisions. I would also like to thank Judy McLaughlin for her courageous leadership and the Lakeland Chapter of SOS for leading the charge over the past several months to bring to light the promotion of Critical Race Theory in Lakeland Schools.

“Credit must also be given to the seven members of the Lakeland Central School District who did listen to parents’ concerns and voted for change.  While SOS does not celebrate anyone losing their job, today’s announcement must be a wake-up call for school administrators across Westchester, namely, that parents will not stand by as their children are taught to hate America and hate one another, by viewing their fellow students as oppressors or oppressed.  We will remain vocal in Lakeland and other communities which  permit the teaching of Critical Race Theory in all of its various forms.”

This news is highlighted at a time when the Justice Department announced they are directing the FBI to focus on parents who are pushing back on school boards teaching CRT also called Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion training (DEI). We reported on the memorandum issued by Attorney General Merrick Garland.

“Monday, Attorney General Merrick Garland issued a memorandum to the FBI to convene meetings with “federal, state, local, Tribal, and territorial leaders” within 30 days “These meetings will facilitate the discussion of strategies for addressing threats against school administrators, board members, teachers, and staff”

Garland’s memorandum cites a “disturbing spike in harassment, intimidation, and threats of violence against school administrators, board members, teachers, and staff”.

The memorandum goes on to say, “while spirited debate about policy matters is protected under our Constitution, that protection does not extend to threats of violence or efforts to intimidate individuals based on their views.”

Garland continues and points out that “threats against public servants are illegal” and counter to “nation’s core values”…

This action from the Justice department comes less than a week after the National School Board Association (NSBA) sent a six-page letter to the President of the United States. School Boards across the country have faced much pushback with the radical indoctrination curriculum they are pushing on young minds. Parents are showing up and speaking up against the wrong they are seeing in the public schools.

The letter from NSBA may appear to be calling parents loud and angry protests an act of “domestic terrorism”. NSBA calls on President to do just what has been sent out from the Attorney General. ” As these acts of malice, violence, and threats against public school officials have increased, the classification of these heinous actions could be the equivalent to a form of domestic terrorism and hate crimes. As such, NSBA requests a joint expedited review by the U.S. Departments of Justice, Education, and Homeland Security, along with the appropriate training, coordination, investigations, and enforcement mechanisms from the FBI, including any technical assistance necessary from, and state and local coordination with, its National Security Branch and Counterterrorism Division, as well as any other federal agency with relevant jurisdictional authority and oversight.”

This win for SOS shows that standing up against the indoctrination of our children can work. It appears parents will continue to put pressure on school boards and administrators to make sure their voices and wishes are heard. Only time will tell what will happen with public schools, many parents have also opted to remove their children from the public school system.
