In April of last year, Naomi Judd tragically took her own life at the age of 76. Judd had recently performed with her daughter Wynonna at the CMA’s earlier that month. The pair were set to be inducted into the Hall of Fame the same week Naomi sadly took her life.
Radar Online has reported that Naomi left a suicide note in which she banned Wynnona from her funeral stating that Wynonna is “mentally ill”.
The note left behind read, “Do not let Wy come to my funeral. She’s mentally ill,” the “not” was underlined on the note.
Wynonna did attend her mother’s funeral despite the note left by Naomi.
Naomi somewhat excluded both of her daughters from her will. She instead directed her husband Larry Strickland to have “full authority and discretion” over her estate.
Rumors surfaced that Wynonna was upset she was excluded from the will, however, in an interview with People magazine last October Wynonna denied there was a family feud over her mom’s estate.
“Someone told me while I was at Ashley’s house, ‘Hey, did you know that they’re saying this about you?’ I went, ‘Huh? I’m fighting with Ashley? Fighting over what? I have such a great life. Ashley has a great life. Why would we be fighting over the will?” Wynonna told People.
According to a Radar Online source, Wynonna “has to continue to believe her mother did not mean what she wrote.”
The source also said, “Naomi had suffered from mental illness and suicidal thoughts for years, and Wynonna suffered right along with her,” the source said. “They toured the world and became music superstars as The Judds, but that also caused a lot of conflict.”
Naomi and Wynonna were set to start a final concert tour for The Judds at the end of 2022. After Naomi’s passing, Wynonna decided to continue with the tour.
Wynonna did however, cancel her New Year’s Eve performance, but has not canceled any other shows. She has shared that she is “Ok” and “working so hard” on her mental health.
