While speaking to an audience today for a women’s business summit, Joe Biden discussed the Tennessee school shooting.
First, however, Biden attempted to lighten the mood by talking about his love of chocolate chip ice cream.
Biden began his speech by telling the audience, “My name is Joe Biden, I’m Dr. Jill Biden’s husband and I eat … ice cream, chocolate chip. I came down because I heard there was chocolate chip ice cream. By the way, I have a whole refrigerator full upstairs, think I’m kidding?”
After that, Biden then pointed out some of the kids in the audience, engaging in some banter about who was the oldest and telling the boys to respect their sister.
Biden then pivoted to the shooting and said, “It’s sick, you know, we’re still gathering the facts of what happened and why.”
“We do know that as of now, there are a number of people who did not make it including children. It’s heartbreaking, a family’s worst nightmare,” Biden continued.
Biden added that we have to do more to stop “gun violence” and more to “protect our schools” while calling on Congress to pass his “assault weapons ban.”
“I’ve been to so many of these sites… one of the things you folks should focus on, just like when in the military… so many members of the military coming back with post-traumatic stress… these children, these teachers we should be focusing on their mental health as well,” Biden insisted.
