Pro-Life Former 49ers Coach Jim Harbaugh Puts his Money Where his Mouth is, Offers to Adopt Unplanned Children

Jim Harbaugh, former 49ers coach and current head coach of Michigan State Wolverines, added more to his speech from a Right to Life event he spoke at.

Harbaugh told ESPN he encourages his family, players, and staff if they have an unplanned pregnancy and for whatever reason couldn’t take care of it, he and his wife Sarah would.

At the Right to Life event, Harbaugh spoke as the keynote speaker saying, “I believe in having the courage to let the unborn be born. I love life. I believe in having a loving care and respect for life and death. My faith and my science are what drives these beliefs in me. Quoting from Jeremiah, ‘Before I formed you in the womb, I knew you. Before you were born, I set you apart. I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.”

Harbaugh accredited his belief to his catholic upbringing. He added, “In God’s plan, each unborn human truly has a future filled with potential, talent, dreams and love. I have living proof in my family, my children, and the many thousands that I’ve coached that the unborn are amazing gifts from God to make this world a better place. To me, the right choice is to have the courage to let the unborn be born.”

These words brought ire on social media. Jemele Hill and The Palmer Report both took offense to Harbaugh’s stance and shared their thoughts on Twitter.

Jemele Hill tweeted:

“This might be a difficult concept for Jim Harbaugh of any anti-choice person to grasp … but if you don’t want an abortion, just don’t get one. Not that hard.”

Palmer Report claimed Harbaugh’s stance “deny women their most basic rights” called for the University of Michigan to fire him.

“No one who actively attempts to deny women their most basic rights should ever be allowed to hold a position of influence at a public university. That incudes University of Michigan football coach Jim Harbaugh and his anti-woman fundraising. He’s a public employee. Fire his ass.”

“It’s one thing to hold this personal view, if you can keep it separate from your actions. But to use your clout as a public employee go out and do fundraisers for groups that actively seek to deny women their most basic of rights, is a whole different ballgame.”

This stance from Harbaugh isn’t anything new, it just comes after the Supreme Court overturned Roe Vs Wade. Which now puts the decision of how to handle abortion at the state level, meaning many states will either abolish legal abortion or come close to completely abolishing it.

Harbaugh doubled down telling ESPN, “”I’ve told [them] the same thing I tell my kids, boys, the girls, same thing I tell our players, our staff members. I encourage them if they have a pregnancy that wasn’t planned, to go through with it, go through with it. Let that unborn child be born and if at that time, you don’t feel like you can care for it, you don’t have the means or the wherewithal, then Sarah and I will take that baby.”

These words destroy the liberal argument that those who are antiabortion don’t care for the children after they are born. The left has targeted pregnancy centers that provide ultrasounds as well as my resources after the child is born to help those who aren’t prepared. Pregnancy centers have been vandalized across the country as well as some have been burned.

Harbaugh continued, “the abortion issue is one that’s so big that it needs to be talked about. It’s a life or death type of issue. And I believe in, and I respect, people’s views. But let’s hear them. Let’s discuss them because there’s passion on both sides of this issue. So when you combine that with respect, that’s when the best results come … [I’m] just contributing to that conversation and that communication, which I think is really important, in my opinion.”

It seems many won’t even engage in a conversation about abortion and Harbaugh has opened the door against virolent talking points from the left, with a genuine statement of love, offering help. This message may resonate with someone who doesn’t know what to do and has found themselves with an unplanned pregnancy.

There is help out there for those who are unsure what to do and those like Harbaugh want people in these situations to know their are other options.
