Rand Paul Gives Update on Staffer Who Was Stabbed, Calls for Man Arrested in Connection ‘to be Kept from Society’

U.S. Senator Rand Paul’s (R-KY) staffer Phillip Todd was stabbed in Washington D.C. in broad daylight. Just after 5 pm on March 25th, Todd was leaving a Mexican restaurant when he was attacked.

Paul gave an update on his staffer’s condition while on Sean Hannity’s show ‘Hannity’, sharing that it “was life-threatening, but he will recover.”

Paul told Hannity, “He is going to recover. He’s been through a lot. He is not completely beyond all of the problems from this attack. It was life-threatening, but he will recover. He is in good spirits. I talked to him. It’s going to take time. But we all are just hoping the best and hoping he gets better as soon as he can.”

Hannity then brought out the murder of Fox News commentator Gianno Caldwell’s little bother. Caldwell’s little brother Christian was murdered in Chicago last summer. Hannity continued on pointing out that the no bail soft on crime approach is affecting innocent people like Caldwell’s brother and Paul’s staffer.

Paul responded, “I think a lot of us try to talk ourselves into ‘oh well maybe it’s not that bad, maybe it was three in the morning in a dark alley’. This was broad daylight right outside a restaurant, I think they had just picked up their food. No one would expect something like this to happen. It makes all of us as we walk around D.C. look over our shoulders…”

“The person who did this, I don’t think should see the outside of a jail again. He’s got a long line of violence, and I think this person needs to be kept from society,” Paul remarked.

Glynn Neal was arrested for the stabbing. Neal had only been released from a 12-year prison sentence for a day when he stabbed Paul’s staffer.

Todd suffered a puncture to the left lung, a laceration to the left ear, and “a puncture wound to the left side of his head, which penetrated the skull and likely caused an internal brain bleed,” according to court documents.

The friend who was with Todd at the time told police the attacker “jumped at them from behind a wall”.

Another witness said the attacker stabbed Todd multiple times with a knife.

Currently, there is no motive for the attack that is known. Todd told police he doesn’t know the attacker and had no idea why he was attacked.
