Reporter William J. Kelly had his media credentials stripped in 2022 after he asked her hard-hitting questions about the crime in Chicago. With some luck, he was able to confront Lori Lightfoot at the city council meeting on Wednesday night.
In the brief three minutes, he was allotted to speak during the public comment Kelly expressed his frustration with Lightfoot and told her to “get the hell out” of Chicago.
“You shut down the businesses. You did the one thing I thought could never happen. As somebody who was born and raised on the south side of Chicago, I never thought in my life that I would ever see the city of Chicago brought down so low.”
“I hope that after today’s city council meeting, you will pack your suitcase and get the hell out of my city.”
Kelly only found out he was one of the lucky five allowed to speak at the meeting just before the meeting took place, he called it “the luck of the Irish”
A combative video of the pair’s exchange had gone viral. He asked her, “Real Chicagoans are asking me how you could possibly even consider running for reelection as mayor of the city of Chicago after all the harm you’ve caused?”
The reason for removing his press credentials was that he allegedly bumped one of her security guards at the July 19th press conference according to Chicago Police Superintending, who was appointed by Lightfoot.
Kelly has sued Lightfoot over being stripped of his credentials and that case is still in federal court.
Lightfoot was voted out of office in February when she failed to garner enough votes to make it to the run-off set for April. This was the first time in over thirty years that a Chicago mayor had lost reelection.
Lightfoot blamed racism as well as sexism for her lose, she has not humbly admitted to any mistakes.
