Riots Breakout After Winston Smith Died During Attempted Warrant Arrest in Minneapolis

Minneapolis has once again been struck with violence as burning, rioting, and looting broke out on Friday night. The unrest came in response to the death of wanted felon Winston Smith, who fired on police officers while they attempted to arrest him on Thursday for being a felon in possession of a firearm.

Demonstrators blocked traffic as they set fire to dumpsters in the road.

Journalist Andy Ngo also Tweeted a video of a large group of looters breaking into a T-Mobile store.

There are also reports of a shooting taking place during the riots. Video shows someone conducting CPR on the apparent victim. Another video shows a man lying in the street bleeding heavily from an unknown cause.

Smith’s family and friends tried to defend his reputation by saying that he was “a comedian” and that, although he had a criminal record, he was trying to turn his life around.

But others have pointed to several social media posts from Winston Smith’s account showing a desire to commit violence against the police. In response to the death of George Floyd, Smith said, “We got guns and bullet proof vest too or should be able to get em … why not just rush these f–ks and start this war they keep asking for!”

In another post he said, “I’m down with the burn everything government not touch sh-t else I don’t even need to loot I’ll buy my sh-t just kill them dirty ass cops off we tired of being scared at the red light!”

The crime rate in Minneapolis has been soaring over the past year while the Minneapolis Police Department has lost over 200 officers due to retirement or disability.
