Former “Fox News Sunday” host Chris Wallace was given a knockout blow today as it was reported that the show saw a ratings increase when Shannon Bream hosted the program.
Bream was named the permanent replacement today and while Wallace doesn’t currently have a program to anchor at CNN, it was announced that he will now have his own program on that network beginning in the fall on Sunday nights.
Of course, expectations at CNN are likely much lower at this point as the network has had recent trouble matching the competition with ratings numbers.
It was reported that each time Bream has guest-hosted “FOX News Sunday” over the last several months, she has over-delivered the 2021 average of the show by 20%.
Not only that, but in January, she netted double-digit increases across the board on the show, up 32% in total viewers (1.35 million) and 45% over the previous in the advertiser-friendly 25-54 demo (343,000), marking the highest-rated “FOX News Sunday” episode of 2022.
Bream ushered in week-to-week gains of 37% in the 25-54 demo, a 53% increase in the 18-49 demo with 8% growth in total viewers in June when she hosted.
Fox News Channel airings outpaced every single CNN and MSNBC Sunday program in total viewers and Bream also notched a 10% increase in the 25-54 demo compared to the same show last year.
Sandra Smith was another Fox News anchor who had guest-hosted the program, but according to Adweek, her February 13 show only netted 1.06 million viewers with 281,000 in the 25-54 demo.
Bream will be the first woman to anchor the show in its 26-year history and will officially take the reigns on Sept. 11.
