Stacey Abrams Insists That She Did Not ‘Challenge’ Outcome of Her Previous Election, ‘Unlike Some Recent Folks Did’

Following the recent official announcement that she is running for governor again in Georgia, Democrat Stacey Abrams appeared in an interview with MSNBC’s Rachel Maddow.

Abrams insisted in the interview that she did not “challenge” the outcome of her previous election and then took an indirect shot at former President Donald Trump by adding, “unlike some recent folks did.”

Maddow prefaced the discussion on Abram’s past campaign by claiming that GOP Gov. Brian Kemp, who was serving as Georgia’s secretary of state at the time, engaged in “voter suppression tactics” to benefit his candidacy.

Noting that Abrams had been “contentious” about the loss and suggesting it wasn’t “a fair fight,” Maddow then asked her how she thought that such a dynamic had affected the race.

Abrams responded, “On the 16th of November when I acknowledged that I would not become governor, that he had won the election, I did not challenge the outcome of the election unlike some recent folks did.”

“What I said was that the system was not fair, and leaders challenge systems. Leaders say we can do better. And that’s what I declared,” Abrams claimed.

As Fox News noted, Abrams refused to officially concede, saying the election was rigged by voter suppression, and even made subsequent claims she was the true winner.

On Wednesday, Abrams released a campaign video and said in a tweet, “I’m running for Governor because opportunity in our state shouldn’t be determined by zip code, background or access to power. #gapol“

U.S. House Rep Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) has also announced that she plans to be involved in preventing Abrams from becoming the highest-ranking elected official in the state.

Tagging Abrams, Greene said that she believes that the Democrat, “doesn’t represent women in Georgia.”

“We ALL know how awful our lives & kids lives would be if she was Governer during Covid. Tyrannical shutdowns, never ending masks mandates, & high unemployment would be our existence. I’ll be leading GA Women to defeat Stacey,” Greene explained.
