Texas Republican U.S. Senator Ted Cruz went after Joe Biden Sunday morning saying that Joe Biden’s presidency is the “best thing that ever happened” for Russian President Vladimir Putin.

On “Fox News Sunday”, Cruz was asked by Bill Hemmer if the White House’s approach to the Ukraine situation is working thus far. Cruz responded, “No, it hasn’t worked at all. If you look at what the Ukrainians want, they’ve been very explicit. They’ve asked the United States explicitly, ‘Put sanctions on Nord Stream 2, right now, today.’ Joe Biden could do that this morning. He refuses to do it. And they said, number two, provide lethal military aid, give us the weapons to defend ourselves.”
Cruz continued, “Joe Biden came to Capitol Hill and personally lobbied Democratic senators to vote against Russian sanctions. That’s why we’re facing this invasion. I gotta say Bill, Joe Biden becoming president is the best thing that ever happened, tragically, for Vladimir Putin.”
“Joe Biden’s weakness, recklessness, and surrender have emboldened Putin to put Europe on the verge of war.”

As many Republicans are calling on the Biden Administration to put sanctions on Russia, in an attempt to deter a Russian invasion of Ukraine, the Biden administration has defended their decision to hold off. Secretary of State Antony Blinken said, “The purpose of the sanctions in the first instance is to try to deter Russia from going to war. As soon as you trigger them, that deterrent is gone. And until the last minute, as long as we can try to bring a deterrent effect to this, we’re going to try to do that.”
For weeks on end, many have claimed that Russia will invade Ukraine any day now, however, Russia has yet to do so. While the Biden Administration appears to be alarmed about the situation thousands of miles away from the mainland, he has yet to put sanctions on Russia. According to Cruz, this is playing right into the hands of Putin.
