Ted Cruz Demands Correction from PolitiFact After Texas Supreme Court Rules Fugitive Dems Can Be Arrested

Following a ruling yesterday from the Texas Supreme Court that the fugitive Democrats could be arrested, U.S. Sen Ted Cruz took a victory lap and demanded a correction from PolitiFact over a false claim they had given to a previous assertion he had made in an interview.

Cruz retweeted a tweet from Mark Hemingway, who is a senior writer at Real Clear Investigations, and declared, “Yep. The Texas Supreme Court just agreed with me—unanimously. But, of course, PolitiFact still rules the claim ‘false.’ They have yet to issue a correction.”

Hemingway had noted, “Ted Cruz is the former Solicitor General of Texas, but hey I’m sure the Politifact writer who spent 90 minutes researching this knows Texas law better than he does.”

PolitiFact had rated a July 13 statement from Cruz where he said, “There is clear legal authority to handcuff and put in leg irons legislators that are trying to stop the legislature from being able to do business,” as false.

Legal analyst Johnathan Turley agreed with Cruz in a report on his tweet and stated, “PolitiFact should correct its column. Indeed, it should have been corrected before the Texas Supreme Court decision.”

Today, Texas House Speaker Dade Phelan (R) signed 52 arrest warrants in an effort to corral the absent members in to vote for the voter integrity bill that they want passed.

At least one representative will temporarily avoid apprehension as Democratic Rep. Gene Wu, who represents part of Houston, was able to successfully filed a writ of habeas corpus to challenge the civil arrest warrant in Harris County district court.

In a statement, Wu said, “I am pleased to say the court has granted relief, at least temporarily, to prevent anyone from detaining me and dragging me back to the House Floor against my will.”

Alluding to other House members attempting the same tactic, Wu continued, “My legal counsel and I are working on granting the same protection for my fellow Texas House Democrats breaking quorum.”

“We will continue to fight with everything we have to stop Texas Republicans’ efforts to undermine your freedom to vote,” Wu claimed.
