Texas Senator Ted Cruz gave his opening statement this morning at the Senate Judiciary Committee Confirmation Hearing and after several Democrats spoke already.
Cruz said that “As Sherlock Holmes famously observed, ‘What speaks the loudest is the dog that didn’t bark.” He said that he hadn’t “heard virtually not a single word about Judge Barrett.”
However, Cruz pointed out that he has heard “a lot of attacks at President Trump.” He added that he understands that his “Democratic colleagues are not supporters of the president.”
“I think part of the reason for that is on any measure, Judge Barrett’s credentials are impeccable. This is a woman who graduated #1 in her class at Notre Dame Law School,” Cruz explained.
Appearing on NBC’s Meet The Press yesterday with Chuck Todd, Cruz said that “The delay tactics of the Democrats aren’t going to work,” referencing various efforts that Democrat Senators have made to stop the hearings.
“I think we’re going to see, by the way, some more procedural games and shenanigans. I don’t know what they’re going to do, whether it’s, try to boycott meetings or try to impeach the president,” he continued as Todd listening intently.
“I believe they are going to try to do something to delay it, it’s not going to work, I believe we have the votes and I believe Judge Barrett, on the merits, is going to be confirmed and confirmed by the end of the month, before election day,” Cruz concluded.
Whether it’s boycotting meetings or trying to impeach the president, Democrats will try every trick from the playbook to delay Judge Barrett’s confirmation to the #SCOTUS.
