Tennis Legend Martina Navratilova Diagnosed with Two Forms of Cancer, Shares She Will ‘Fight With All I Have Got’

Martina Navratilova, who is considered among the greatest tennis players of all time was diagnosed with both throat and breast cancer.

Both cancers are stage one and she is set to begin treatment next week in New York City.

“This double whammy is serious but still fixable. I’m hoping for a favorable outcome.  It’s going to stink for a while, but I’ll fight with all have I got,” Navratilova said in a statement about her diagnosis.

According to Mary Greenham, Navratilova’s agent, Navratilova discovered an enlarged lymph node in her neck in early November during the WTA Finals. A biopsy was done and she was diagnosed with stage one throat cancer.

The breast cancer was found while she was undergoing throat tests and a suspicious form was found in her breast, it was later diagnosed as cancer.

Navratilova currently holds the WTA Tour’s all-time record of 167 titles, 18 grand slam singles titles, 31 grand slam doubles titles, and 10 grand slam mixed doubles titles.

She retired from singles in 1994 at the age of 38 but continued to play doubles into her 40s. Navratilova continues to be active in tennis as a coach, broadcaster as well as an ambassador for the WTA Tour.

With starting treatment, Navratilova hopes she will be able to appear via Zoom in the upcoming coverage of the Australian Open as she won’t be able to be there in person.
