Twitter Mob Descends on Kevin McCarthy After He Issues a Statement Defending Marjorie Taylor Greene

House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-MD) announced today that House Democrats will move to oust Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) from her committee assignments in a vote tomorrow over comments she made prior to taking office.

House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) made a statement on the situation earlier, where he criticized the Democrats decision to hold the vote.

McCarthy said in the statement, “Past comments from and endorsed by Marjorie Taylor Greene on school shootings, political violence, and anti-Semitic conspiracy theories do not represent the values or beliefs of the House Republican Conference.”

In the statement, McCarthy added that he “made clear that as a member of Congress we have a responsibility to hold ourselves to a higher standard than how she presented herself as a private citizen.”

Criticizing Hoyer and the Democrats, McCarthy said that he offered “a path to lower the temperature and address these concerns. Instead of coming together to do that, the Democrats are choosing to raise the temperature by taking the unprecedented step to further their partisan power grab regarding the committee assignments of the other party.”

After McCarthy posted the statement in a tweet, a mob of critics descended on his post.

The Lincoln Project, who recently dealt with their own scandal with a co-founder making inappropriate sexual advances, replied to McCarthy, “You’re pathetic.”

Liberal author John Pavlovitz said that he believes McCarthy should have just wrote, “I’m a coward” because it would be “Shorter, more accurate.”

Lev Parnas, a former associate of Rudy Giuliani, who is under indictment and has been a critic of Trump, claimed that “Kevin McCarthy (Q-CA) is an extension of Donald Trump! I know.”

In a recent interview with the Washington Examiner, Greene shrugged off the Democrats attempt to strip her of her committee roles.

“They don’t even realize they’re helping me. I’m pretty amazed at how dumb they are,” Greene said. Greene has increased her Twitter following recently and raised over $160,000 yesterday.

It also sets a precedent for the future and if the Republicans take back the House in 2022, they will be able to use the same tactics against Democrats.
