Archbishop of San Francisco, Salvatore Cordileone, in response to Nancy Pelosi’s actions on abortion and her proclamation of the Catholic faith in justifying her pro-abortion stance has been banned from receiving Eucharist (Holy Communion).
Whoopi Goldberg who has professed to be Jewish has some words for the archbishop. We are unclear on her authority or knowledge of the Catholic church but Goldberg took some time on “The View” yesterday to let him know, “this is not your job, dude. That is not up to you to make that decision.”
Goldberg welcomed the viewers to the show yesterday and then jumped right in with her thoughts. “Welcome to ‘The View’ y’all. The abortion-rights battle is starting to blur the lines between church and state. The archbishop of San Fransico… mmm is calling for Speaker Nancy Pelosi to be denied receiving communion because of her pro-choice stance. He’s one of the priests who call for President Biden to deny sacrament.”
Whoopi then jumps back and raises her hands, “This is not your JOB dude, that is not.. you can’t, not up to you to make that decision. You know what is the saying, it’s kind of amazing, but you know what is the point of communion? Right. It’s for sinners.” Then Goldberg places her hand on her chest.
“It’s the reward of saints, but the bread of sinners.” Greatly offended by the action of the archbishop she continues, “how dare you, how dare you.”

As far as our understanding of the Catholic church structure goes, it is well within an archbishop’s power to deny communion to a member of the church if they are in violation of the Code of Canon Law.
Archbishop Cordileone shared his letter to Pelosi in which he bans her from Communion, the full text can be read below:

In the letter, he writes, As you have not publically repudiated your position on abortion, and continue to refer to your Catholic faith in justifying your position and to receive Holy Communion, that time has now come. Therefore, in light of my responsibility as the Archbishop of San Francisco to be “concerned for all the Christian faithful entrusted to [my] care” (Code of Canon Law, can. 383, §1), by means of this communication I am hereby notifying you that you are not to present yourself for Holy Communion and, should you do so, you are not to be admitted to Holy Communion, until such time as you publicly repudiate your advocacy for the legitimacy of abortion and confess and receive absolution of this grave sin in the sacrament of Penance.
Pelosi, herself has pushed back saying, “I respect people’s views about that. But I don’t respect us foisting it onto others.” The irony of her statement shows how tone-deaf the left can be when it comes to their agenda.
Cordileone shares his reason for denying Pelosi Communion:

In response to those claiming his actions are political, he states, “I’ve been very clear all along, my purpose is pastoral, not political, I’m not campaigning for anyone for office… I would also point out it is possible to politicize the Eucharist in reverse, to receive communion as a means of furthering a political agenda, if one is motivated for that reason, so it cuts both ways.”
It appears to us, without saying it directly that the archbishop believes Pelosi is using her Catholic faith as a political tool.
