Steve Harvey is in hot water with ABC executives after he referred to a defendant on his new show Judge Steve Harvey, as the stupidest man he’s met.
Harvey has been on a press tour and was recently on Jimmy Kimmel Live. They showed a clip from his new show where he gets a picture with the defendant. He then goes back to his chair and comments that the man is the stupidest person he’s met. It appears the man was on the show taking his wife to court.
ABC executives made sure to talk to Harvey about his comments, telling him, calling someone stupid isn’t politically correct. He told Kimmel this story and then asked well, “what is he?”
In another interview he did on his tour Harvey explains that the reason he no longer does stand-up comedy is because of Cancel Culture when asked if he would do another tour.
Harvey said, “The only way I can do one more special is that it would have to be at the end of my television career because it will end my television career.”
“See, we’re in the cancel culture now. And nobody, no standup alive that is sponsor‑driven, can say anything he wants to. Chris Rock can’t. Kevin Hart can’t. Cedric the Entertainer can’t. D.L. Hughley can’t. I can go down the list. The only person that can say what they want to say on stage is Dave Chappelle because he’s not sponsor‑driven,” Harvey explained.
Chapelle and Netflix have faced much backlash after his latest special was released as it offended many in the LGBTQ+ community, including actor George Takei.
Comedies and comedians of the past would stand no chance in our current cultural atmosphere. Steve Carrell from The Office says his character wouldn’t fly in today’s climate. Harvey is right, if you are sponsored by anyone you risk losing your income if you don’t play by their ‘woke’ rules.
