Mastriano Defends Audit Request: ‘Too Many Pennsylvania Voters Believe That Their Vote Did Not Count’

GOP PA State Sen Doug Mastriano tweeted a video tonight defending his decision to request a forensic audit in his state of the 2020 general and 2021 primary elections.

In the tweet, Mastriano said that he believes, “Too many Pennsylvania voters believe that their vote did not count.”

“I believe that by undertaking a forensic investigation of the 2020 and 2021 election results, faith in our election process can and will be restored,” Mastriano added.

In the video, Mastriano invoked his military service, noting that the audit would be what he considered to be an “after action report” and that it would be a “bipartisan” review.

Many responses to Mastriano’s tweet offered support. Twitter user Kelly Makay replied, “Thank you @SenMastriano. So much faith lost in the system this past election. I pray for you and for this process.”

Another Twitter user, who claimed to be a resident of Pennsylvania, “Tammy,” told Mastriano, “I fully agree, and could not disagree any more with AG Shapiro’s statement that you are the only one in PA that wants a audit. I live in PA and I want a audit!”

Earlier, we reported on Democratic Pennsylvania Attorney General Josh Shapiro’s opposition to the audit and Congressional candidate Teddy Daniel’s response to a series of tweets:

“Although 2 legal audits have already been completed, Senator Mastriano is now requesting a laundry list of confidential and privileged information from 3 counties in continued efforts to pay homage to former President Trump and further spread misinformation about our elections,” Shapiro claimed.

Shapiro then suggested that the counties should disobey the request and suggested, “These counties should refuse to participate in this partisan fishing expedition. This ‘audit’ could risk decertifying the counties’ voting machines, costing county taxpayers’ millions of dollars.”

“Right now this information is being requested voluntarily but should subpoenas be issued, you can expect our office to do everything to protect the Commonwealth, its voters and the free, fair election that was held in Pennsylvania,” Shapiro insisted.

Daniels shared a screenshot of the tweets and explained, “When @JoshShapiroPA , our liberal attorney general in PA has total meltdowns over the Audit of only 3 counties in PA, tells me we are definitely over target with the Audit. The AG failed his office by not investigating criminal election complaints.”
