Joe Biden Challenged on His Abortion Stance by Reporter ‘but you’re Catholic’, as Jill Biden Sweeps in to Limit His Response

As Joe Biden continues to advocate for abortion rights, as a self-described “Catholic”, some have questioned how faithful he is to key church teachings.

Wednesday morning, following his State of the Union address Tuesday night in which he reaffirmed his support for abortion, a reporter challenged Biden on how faithful he really is. The reporter asked, “As a Catholic, why do you support abortion, as a Catholic, defying church teachings?”

“I don’t want to get in a debate with you on theology, but you know, well anyway, I’m not going to make a judgment for other people,” Biden said as his wife, Jill Biden, appeared to sweep in behind him in what some believe as her trying to get him to leave. Almost on queue, Jill comes in from the background.

The reporter, clearly unsatisfied by his short response, pressed on explaining, “But you’re Catholic!”. Biden didn’t care to respond and took on another question as some may believe Biden knows he is defying his so-called “faith”.

The Catechism of the Catholic Church says, “Since the first century the Church has affirmed the moral evil of every procured abortion. This teaching has not changed and remains unchangeable. Direct abortion, that is to say, abortion willed either as an end or a means, is gravely contrary to the moral law.

Later it explains, “Formal cooperation in an abortion constitutes a grave offense. The Church attaches the canonical penalty of excommunication to this crime against human life. “A person who procures a completed abortion incurs excommunication latae sententiae,”77 “by the very commission of the offense,”78 and subject to the conditions provided by Canon Law.79 The Church does not thereby intend to restrict the scope of mercy. Rather, she makes clear the gravity of the crime committed, the irreparable harm done to the innocent who is put to death, as well as to the parents and the whole of society.

2273 The inalienable right to life of every innocent human individual is a constitutive element of a civil society and its legislation

Cleary, based on the Catholic Church’s teaching, Biden is committing a grave sin by continuing to support abortion. While Biden may present himself as a “good Catholic”, on the surface, most would disagree just by this alone.
