Universal Chairman Donna Langley announced a proposal that was brought to her by “The Bourne Identity” director Doug Liman, and Tom Cruise. The project, which is now in development, seems intended to send the actor to the Internation Space Station for a small amount of filming.
Langley told the BBC, “I think Tom Cruise is taking us to space, he’s taking the world to space”. She continued, “we have a great project in development with Tom, that does contemplate him doing just that. Taking a rocket up to the Space Station and shooting.”
“Hopefully being the first civilian to do a spacewalk outside of the space station.”
Langley said the idea was directly proposed by Cruise, “he collaborates very closely with a director called Doug Liman,” she added. They set up a Zoom call during the pandemic.
We “got onto the call and he said, ‘Guys I’ve got this great project, and here it is.'”
She then explains that most of the filming will take place on earth as most of the story does until the character needs to go to space to save the day.
It seems after Top Gun: Maverick Cruise had a yearning for even greater heights. He is clearly aiming to get to space.
During the pandemic, Space Shuttle Almanac Twitter account announced they were making plans to take Cruise and Liman up to space.
“So its confirmed that @CommanderMLA is flying the @Axiom_Space @SpaceX #CrewDragon tourist mission with Director @DougLiman & Tom Cruise. One seat still to be filled. They are to launch in October, 2021.”

However, it seems they have not yet made it up to the International Space Station yet but it seems the project is still moving forward.
The Top Gun sequel illuminated audiences and drew them in and the movie set records. Cruise it seems, will be on his way to space.
