Actor Jussie Smollett Set to Face Trial Over Alleged Staged Attack After Judge Denies Dismissal Attempt

Former “Empire” actor Jussie Smollett appears out of options now after a dismissal attempt was denied by Cook County Circuit Court Judge James Linn.

Linn noted that Smollett’s case now is being handled by a special prosecutor and that he won’t interfere as the trial is set for Nov. 29.

Smollett was first charged in 2019 with filing a false police report over an alleged staged attack, but that case, however, was dropped.

The case was revived when a special prosecutor charged Smollett, who has pleaded not guilty with disorderly conduct over the police reports.

In June 2020, two brothers, Abimbola and Olabinjo Osundairo, admitted that they helped Smollett stage a racist and homophobic attack against him that also slandered Trump supporters.

Smollett’s lawyer Nenye Uche argued that Smollett’s rights were being violated since he had already performed community service and given up a $10,000 bond in a previous deal with Cook County prosecutors to drop charges.

Uche insisted, “A deal is a deal. That’s ancient principle,” however, he also claimed that Smollett wants “nothing more than to go to a jury and clear his name.”

Twitter user Liberty Bridge reacted to the news and asserted, “#JussieSmollett needs to be held accountable! His type of RACISM is what’s wrong with our country. Please don’t let him get away with what he did.”

Another Twitter user, “Savage As Always,” shared a picture of the brothers who admitted to the fake attack and questioned, “I wonder if these 2 white men who was wearing MAGA hat’s, put a noose around his neck, poured bleach on him, and was screaming this is MAGA country in -34 degree weather will be at present at the Jussie Smollett trial..”
