Actor Turned Texas County District Attorney Intends to ‘Uphold the Laws’ of the State With Netflix Indictment

We reported earlier that Netflix has been indicted by a Texas grand jury for allegedly promoting “lewd visual material” of a child in connection to the release of the controversial French film “Cuties.”

Lucas Babin, the Tyler County District Attorney, said in a statement posted on the office’s official Facebook page that the summons was served on Netflix Oct. 1 by Texas Rangers.

In the statement, Babin said, “The legislators of this state believe promoting certain lewd material of children has destructive consequences.”

“If such material is distributed on a grand scale, isn’t the need to prosecute more, not less? A grand jury in Tyler County found probably cause for this felony, and my job is to uphold the laws of this state and see that justice is done,” he concluded.

Babin was born on July 30, 1979 in Beaumont, Texas and appeared as an actor in multiple movies and tv series including School of Rock, Brick, and The Young and the Restless.

Earlier this year, Babin was named the Tyler County Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the Year, an honor he said he was surprised, yet thankful, to receive.

He said at the time that his “objective as DA is simple to do the job I was elected to do; see justice is done in Tyler County. I can’t do it alone. It’s a team effort.”

Babin’s father, who is U.S. Congressional Rep Brian Babin, praised him for the award, saying, “You’ve got to have investigations, arrests, cases built. You’ve got to prosecute. It’s all working hand-in-glove.”
