Adam Schiff Praises Gov. Newsom’s COVID Response, Claims Republicans are ‘Wasting Time’ With Recall Effort

California’s Democratic Governor Gavin Newsom is lashing out at the “far-right Republican recall effort” currently underway against him by blaming “anti-mask and anti-vax extremists.”

Newsom’s campaign sent an email out today to supporters saying he would not take the recall effort against him “lying down.”

U.S. House Rep Adam Schiff (D-CA) lent his support to the beleaguered governor in a tweet today where he echoed the message of Newsom’s campaign’s email and shared a link to donate.

Schiff began by suggesting that, “@GavinNewsom stepped up, and took swift action to protect Californians during the pandemic and get them help quickly.”

“Now Republicans are wasting time and taxpayers $$ trying to recall him. We need to fight back,” Schiff added.

As we previously reported last month, the recall petition had reached the 1.5 million signature threshold and last week, the recall effort reportedly surpassed its goal of garnering 2 million signatures, a threshold the RecallGavin2020 team set to account for invalidated signatures.

Newsom tweeted out earlier, “I won’t be distracted by this partisan, Republican recall — but I will fight it. There is too much at stake. Getting Californians vaccinated, our economy safely reopened, and our kids back in school are simply too important to risk.”

Senior advisor for the RecallGavin2020 team, Randy Economy, quote tweeted Newsom and replied, “Sorry @GavinNewsom Your tired playbook is outdated. The People of California will decide your future, not politicians like @BernieSanders@ewarren@staceyabrams@NYGovCuomo and others. We the People are in charge now.”

Senators Bernie Sanders (I-VT) and Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) as well as Georgia Democrat Stacey Abrams have all joined Newsom in condemning the recall effort.

Previously, we reported:

Movement organizers pushing for a recall of California Governor Gavin Newsom reported late last night that they have reached the necessary amount of signatures to force a recall election into effect. As we reported yesterday, this recall is much to the dismay of the Biden campaign.

To force a recall election, organizers must gain 1.5 million signatures. According to the spokesman for the campaign, Tom del Beccaro, 1.5 million signatures have been reached and they are hoping to gain 400,000 more signatures by the end of March.

On Wednesday, during a press conference supporting a new vaccination site, Newsom was repeatedly interrupted and berated by chants of “Recall Newsom!”. While Newsom did not vocally acknowledge the chants, it was clear that he was visibly frustrated.

The massive pushback against what people view as “tyrannical, anti-American” governors like Gavin Newsom reminds us that the American spirit and the fight against perceived evil are not dead!
