New York Sheriff Receives Warning From Biden Admin For Flying Trump Flag In Boat Parade

Upstate New York Sheriff Don Hilton, who is Sheriff of Oswego County New York, received a letter from the U.S. Office of Special Counsel (OSC) following him flying a Trump flag at a Flotilla for Trump rally in August 2020.

A complaint was made over him flying the flag at a pro-Trump boat parade on Oneida Lake which sparked the investigation.

The OSC said in their letter, “Because you used an official agency resource to promote a presidential candidate, thus giving the impression that the Oswego County Sheriff’s Office endorsed that candidate, OSC determined that you violated the Hatch Act’s prohibition against using your official authority to affect an election.”

It is being alleged that since the Sheriff used the agency’s boat to promote Trump it was in violation of the Hatch Act, which was passed in 1939.

The OSC went on, “Please be advised that if you engage in any future prohibited political activity while employed in a Hatch Act-covered position, OSC would consider such activity to be a willful and knowing violation of the law that could result in disciplinary action.”

Sheriff Hilton responded to the letter assuring that it will not happen again while explaining why he flew the Trump flag, “I did this to show support for the event participants and for our president, who has supported law enforcement at a time when many groups are unjustly vilifying our profession.”

Like many Police officers, Sheriff Hilton feels that former President Donald Trump and Republicans are the only ones who support them during these times in which the police are being turned on by the left.

The event which happened this last summer is now being held against him. While some may see this as the Biden admin simply enforcing the law, some may see it as the Biden administration punishing political opponents and dissidents.
