Adam Schiff Tells NBC’s Chuck Todd He Has No Regrets Giving the Steele Dossier ‘Credibility’

U.S. House Rep Adam Schiff (D-CA) appeared today on NBC’s “Meet the Press” with Chuck Todd to discuss the Jan. 6 Select Committee and the Steele Dossier.

Todd allowed Schiff to rail against the Trump administration and former officials for not complying with the subpoenas to appear before the committee.

Schiff claimed that the Republican Party believes that they are “above the law” because they did so during Trump’s “lawless presidency.”

Todd eventually focused on the Steele Dossier and told Schiff, “You helped give it credibility, do you regret it?”

“I don’t regret saying that we should investigate claims from someone who frankly was a well-respected British Intelligence Officer and we couldn’t have known years ago that we would learn years later that someone who was a primary source lied to him,” Schiff responded.

Schiff then claimed that it was important to know that Russia was supposedly trying to swing the election in Trump’s favor in 2016 and that he was willing to accept it.

Todd pushed back that even if the “summary” was true, the “details” were not and asked again if that undermines the credibility.

Schiff replied this time, “certainly” and called for Igor Danchenko to be prosecuted to the full extent of the law. He added that Danchenko shouldn’t be pardoned as Trump did for supporters of his who were prosecuted after various investigations by Democrats.

Previously, we reported on Schiff’s appearance on ABC’s The View that didn’t go 100% as he would have liked it:

He was confronted by conservative and former Trump White House staffer Morgan Ortagus over his promotion of the “Steele Dossier” while he was attempting to undermine the Trump administration with the Russia investigation.

Ortagus pointed out that “Last week, the main source of the dossier was indicted by the FBI for lying about most of the key claims” in the dossier.

“Do you have any reflections on your role in promoting this to the American people?” Ortagus wondered.

After slamming the Trump administration repeatedly, Schiff explained condescendingly, “At the beginning of the Russia investigation, I said that any allegations should be investigated. We couldn’t have known that, for example, people were lying to Christopher Steele.”

Ortagus wasn’t so convinced as she continued to pressure him and he again denied the ability to know that people were lying.

“Let’s not use that as a smokescreen to somehow shield Donald Trump’s culpability for inviting Russia to help him in the election, which they did, for trying to coerce Ukraine into helping them in the next election, which he did, into inciting an erection – insurrection – which he did, none of that is undercut, none of that serious misconduct is diminished by the fact that people lied to Christopher Steele,” Schiff implied.

Ortagus wasn’t convinced and shot back, “No, I think just your credibility is.”
