After Nancy Pelosi Endorses Charlie Crist For Florida Gov., Nikki Fried Insists ‘I’m Here to Win the General’

Things are heating up in the Florida Democratic primary race for governor as Charlie Crist announced today that Nancy Pelosi has endorsed him in the race.

Crist’s main primary opponent, Nikki Fried, who is also the highest-ranking statewide elected Democrat, responded to the news in a tweet only five minutes after Crist made the announcement in a tweet of his own.

“FYI — I’m here to win the general,” Fried declared in her tweet.

Crist said in the tweet where he shared the video announcement from Pelosi, “I’m honored to receive the full support and endorsement of my colleague and friend, @SpeakerPelosi, as we work to build a Florida that truly works for all Floridians!”

In the video announcement, Pelosi noted that she has “worked with Charlie for the last six years in Congress.”

Pelosi then claimed that Crist would do things “stark contrast to the current governor. Florida you deserve better.”

As we reported at the end of March, a Florida governor poll showed that despite the best efforts of the Democrats, Ron DeSantis is dominating all of his potential opponents ahead of the November election.

According to the Saint Leo University Poll, more than half of respondents (58.8%) said they approved of the job DeSantis is doing.

That percentage is a slight increase from polling in the fall when 56.4% said DeSantis was doing a good job.

Frank Orlando, director of the polling institute said, “As long as the governor’s approval ratings remain in the upper 50s (percentage), it’s hard to see him losing in 2022, which promises to be a strong year for Republicans nationwide.”

In terms of potential matchups against Democrats in November, DeSantis was chosen by over 48% of respondents versus all three possible opponents.

None of his potential opponents were able to break 33% in the poll, with Charlie Crist coming in at 32.8%, Annette Taddeo at 29.6%, and Nikki Fried at a dismal 27%.
