On March 30th Lizelle Herrera was arrested and indicted for murder after allegedly performing a self-induced abortion killing her unborn child.
However, on Sunday, Gocha Allen Ramirez, the District Attorney said he would move to have the charges dropped against Herrera. He released a statement, “In reviewing this case, it is clear that Ms. Herrera cannot and should not be prosecuted for the allegation against her.”
“A Texas district attorney said that he will ask a judge to dismiss a murder charge against a woman who allegedly gave herself an abortion.”

Ramirez concluded his statement, “It is my hope that with the dismissal of this case it is made clear that Ms. Herrera did not commit a criminal act under the laws of the State of Texas.” To those on the pro-life side, this may come as a disappointment as they would have liked to see a prosecution.
It appears Herrera will walk freely after being jailed with a $500,000 bond in Rio Grande City, right on the U.S.-Mexico border which has been a hotspot for illegal immigration. We will have to see if Texas Republican Governor Greg Abbot, who survived a primary last month, will take any executive action to prosecute Herrera.
