It appears the Freedom Caucus Chairman Andy Biggs is planning to challenge Kevin McCarthy for Speaker of the House. According to different reports, Biggs has shared with some of his colleagues he plans to challenge McCarthy. The vote for House leadership is currently set for Tuesday.
Some from the GOP are calling for the elections to be delayed, including Senator Marco Rubio from Florida who is calling for the Senate GOP to delay its vote.
Rubio tweeted:
“We should not have a Senate GOP leadership vote until we have a clear explanation for why our 2022 campaign efforts failed AND until we have a clear understanding of the political & policy direction for the GOP Senate moving forward”

This statement holds true to leadership in the House.
Matt Gaetz U.S Congressmen from Florida has shared his case against keeping McCarthy in leadership. Gaetz found it offensive that McCarthy presumed he would be the leader of the House GOP and started to set up a transition team quickly after the midterm elections.
Gaetz told Charlie Kirk on Monday, “I’m making my announcement, which is that I’m not voting for Kevin McCarthy. I’m not voting for him tomorrow, I’m not voting for him on the floor. And I am certain that there is a critical mass of people who hold my precise view and so the sooner we can sort of dispense with the notion that Kevin is gonna be speaker, then we can get to the important work of actually looking at who are the people that Brian Fitzpatrick and Matt gates can agree on.”
On Thursday Biggs told reporters, “I think we need to have a real discussion about whether he should be the speaker or not.”
“I think that his statement recently that we shouldn’t impeach Secretary Mayorkas indicates that maybe we’re not going to be as aggressive going forward as we should be. I think we need to have a very positive statement of what we’re going to accomplish and do, and I haven’t seen that yet,” he continued.
“That’s those are things that I think we should have a very frank discussion internally about, where we’re going to be going forward,” Biggs added.
Currently, the Republicans are only projected to control the House by a slim majority and that still hasn’t come to fruition yet. Many within the Hosue GOP are calling for a delay in the leadership elections.
Marjorie Taylor Greene has come out against any challenges to McCarthy’s leadership. She told Steve Bannon she will not be part of opposing him for Speaker of the House and thinks it’s a bad plan.
Tomorrow we will see if a vote is still held and if so who leads the GOP within the House and possibly in the Senate.
