AOC: ‘Mitch McConnell is Willing to Let People Starve’

“The Squad” de facto leader House Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-Ny.) is fed up with the lack of agreement on a bill for “Coronavirus relief” and lashed out at Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.).

Yesterday, AOC railed against Republicans and the stalling deal, telling HuffPost that she believes Democrats need to be more forceful in pointing out who she believes is standing in the way of a bill that would deliver larger stimulus checks and more money in unemployment benefits.

“Mitch McConnell is willing to let people starve. He’s willing to let people get evicted. He’s willing to let states allow COVID cases to get out of control and for hospitals to be overrun. He is willing to do all of those things,” AOC said dramatically.

House Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Oh.) said yesterday that he believes “Republicans want Americans to go back to work. Democrats want you to go back to quarantine.”

Ocasio-Cortez added that she believes Democrats need to push back against “this ‘both sides’ bullshit.”

“Ron Johnson just blocked $1,200 checks. We got to get out there and we need to say, Republicans have blocked $400 checks. Republicans have blocked retroactive benefits. Republicans are blocking teacher salaries, school funding, hospital funding, subway systems, mass transit ― straight up,” AOC stated.

AOC pointed to the Georgia Senate runoff as a possible reason for the delay: “There’s a window here and, you know, I’ve heard murmurs that Mitch McConnell is actually sweating behind the scenes because he wants to protect [Georgia Sens. Kelly] Loeffler and [David] Perdue. But it’s like, if he is actually sweating, then they need to cash in real checks.”

McConnell’s office did not have an on-the-record response when presented with Ocasio-Cortez’s comments, according to the HuffPost.

Today, McConnell tweeted out, “I appreciate the good-faith spirit that has characterized the bipartisan negotiations this past week. But the American people cannot feed their families or pay their bills with Congress’s good-faith discussions. They need us to act. We need to conclude talks and land this plane.”
