During White House Press Secretary JenPsaki’s media briefing today, Psaki told reporters that President Biden is “absolutely revolted by the wave of anti-voter laws based on the same repeatedly disproven lies that led to an assault on our nation’s capital.”

These comments come as the “For The People” act will be heard on the Senate floor today at 5:30 PM EST. Psaki told reporters that even if this legislation doesn’t pass, Biden will continue making this kind of election reform a high priority. Biden’s efforts are “not over” if this legislation dies on the Hill this afternoon.
In a speech in Tulsa, Biden said he will “fight like heck” to pass voting rights legislation, which he claims will enable more minorities and low-income citizens to vote. Biden said, “We’re not giving up. I’m going to fight like heck with every tool at my disposal for its passage.”
In his Tulsa speech, Biden also discussed voting rights — says he’ll “fight like heck” to pass S.1 (and is assigning VP Harris to be on that issue), told voting rights groups to “redouble” their efforts, and said June should be “a month of action” on voting on Capitol Hill

The president expressed disappointment seemingly directed towards two prominent moderate Democrats, Joe Manchin (WV) and Krysten Sinema (AZ), who will likely vote against the legislation. On Tuesday, Biden said, “I hear all the folks on TV saying, ‘Why doesn’t Biden get this done?’ Well, because Biden only has a majority of, effectively, four votes in the House and a tie in the Senate, with two members of the Senate who vote more with my Republican friends.”
A “nay” vote from Manchin and Sinema will prevent unity in the Senate Democrats. All 50 Republicans will likely vote against the legislation. The Democrats not being united will hurt their messaging potential in the 2022 election cycle. In an op-ed released earlier this month, Manchin expressed his opposition to the legislation:
“Today’s debate about how to best protect our right to vote and to hold elections, however, is not about finding common ground, but seeking partisan advantage. Whether it is state laws that seek to needlessly restrict voting or politicians who ignore the need to secure our elections, partisan policy-making won’t instill confidence in our democracy — it will destroy it.
“As such, congressional action on federal voting rights legislation must be the result of both Democrats and Republicans coming together to find a pathway forward or we risk further dividing and destroying the republic we swore to protect and defend as elected officials.”
Since the “For the People” Act needs 60 votes, it is nearly impossible that the act will pass. Al the controversy surrounding this legislation will probably amount to nothing, making all the Democrats’ work behind the bill useless, making them look ineffective.
This has infuriated Democrats and their supporters across social media:
