Biden and McConnell Tout FDA Approval of Pfizer COVID-19 Vaccine, Urge Americans to Get Vaccinated

It was announced today that the Food and Drug Administration gave full approval to Pfizer’s COVID-19 vaccine, a milestone that the AP suggested may help lift public confidence in the shots as the nation battles the most contagious coronavirus mutant yet.

President Joe Biden and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) were among many elected leaders to issue a tweet touting the approval as he urged Americans to get vaccinated.

“The FDA has officially approved the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine. While all three COVID vaccines have met FDA’s strict standards for emergency use, this FDA approval should give added confidence that this vaccine is safe and effective,” Biden insisted.

Biden added, “If you’re not vaccinated yet, now is the time.”

McConnell tweeted out, “Big milestone: The FDA has fully approved the Pfizer vaccine. An even further testament to the genius of science and success of Operation Warp Speed.”

Operation Warp Speed was a federal effort enacted by then President Trump to speed up vaccine development.

“Multiple vaccines have proven safe and effective at keeping us safe from COVID. If you haven’t been vaccinated yet, do it today,” McConnell urged.

Many are still skeptical of the necessity to take the vaccines, however, including America First Congressional candidate Jarome Bell, who referenced a recent Forbes report in a tweet.

“Forbes: Pfizer vaccine 39% effective. FDA approves a death jab. Dems vote to add 6 trillion to the debt this week,” Bell lamented.

The Forbes report referenced an Israeli study which suggested that the Pfizer shot is just 39% Effective against Delta infection, but likely to prevent serious illness.

The vaccine has been one area where many of Trump’s supporters have disagreed with him and that was apparent at the recent Alabama rally where he recommended those who have not done so to get vaccinated.

After some boos rang out, Trump responded, “No, that’s okay. That’s all right. You got your freedoms,” Trump said, echoing rhetoric from opponents of mask and vaccine mandates. “But I happen to take the vaccine. If it doesn’t work, you’ll be the first to know. Okay? I’ll call up Alabama, I’ll say, hey, you know what? But (the vaccine) is working. But you do have your freedoms you have to keep. You have to maintain that.”
