Biden Flubs Tribute to Bob Dole By Reading From Prepared Remarks ‘And Then the Message Said, End of Message’

President Joe Biden attended the congressional tribute ceremony today for former Republican Kansas Senator Bob Dole as he lies in state at the U.S. Capitol.

Prior to the end of his life, Dole wrote a column that was published in the Washington Post titled “America needs unity to rediscover its greatness.”

As part of a tribute that Biden gave about Dole, he read an excerpt from that op-ed.

At the end of the quote, Biden inexplicably flubbed the transition into the end of his remarks by reading, “And then the message said, end of message.”

Some liberals tried to claim that it was part of what Dole had said, but those words to not appear in his column.

It seems more probable that Biden’s speech writer inserted it into the speech to help guide him through it, but he ended up reading it instead.

The official White House transcript also doesn’t include the words as part of the quote from Dole:

“I cannot pretend that I have not been a loyal champion [of] my party, but [I’ve] always served my country best when I did [it] so first and foremost as an American.”

“When we prioritize principles over party and humanity over personal legacy” — when we do that, we “accomplish far more as a nation.  By leading with shared faith in each other, we become America at its best.”  He went on to say, “a beacon of hope, a source of comfort in crisis, a shield against those who threaten freedom.”

“Our nation has certainly faced periods of division.  But at the end of the day, we have always found ways to come together.  We can find that unity again.”

And then the message said, end of message.
