The Black Lives Matter organization is calling on you to boycott “White companies” this Christmas and instead shop at Black-owned businesses.

A post on their Instagram page reads, “Time to:
#BuildBlack – Support Black-led-Black-serving organizations.
#BuyBlack – Skip the Black Friday sales and buy exclusively from Black-owned businesses.
#BankBlack – Move your money out of white-corporate banks that finance our oppression and open accounts with Black-owned banks. White-supremacist-capitalism uses policing to protect profits and steal Black life…including the livesof #JohnCrawford, #StevenTaylor, #RedelJones, #YuvetteHenderson, #AlbertRamonDorsey, #DennisToddRogers & #SkyYoung. Let’s use every tool in our toolbox…including our dollars…to end white-supremacist-capitalism.”
In another post last month they wrote on their Instagram page, “SATURDAY, 11/20/2021 8-10AM PT– This Is Not a Drill! on KBLA Talk 1580AM or facebook.com/BLMLA – Talking about #BlackXmas and how white-supremacist-capitalism is complicit in the murder of Black people by police.”
2014 was the first year they called on people to boycott White businesses. The website blackxmas.org provides a guide to black-owned businesses in a few cities.
For an organization that claims to be against racism, it appears that they have no problem promoting racist actions like this. Deciding to bankrupt a company due to its owner’s race is clearly racist in it of itself and highlights their hypocrisy, in our opinion.
While many businesses are struggling with inflation, worker shortages, and supply chain issues from the Biden administration, now is not the time to boycott businesses due to their owner’s race. Many would say that Martin Luther King Jr. would not be for boycotting white businesses.
