Boebert Decries Installation of Metal Detectors at the Capitol as ‘Another Political Stunt By Speaker Pelosi’

House Rep. Lauren Boebert (CO) is one of several Republicans upset tonight that metal detectors have been put in place at the Capitol following last Wednesday’s siege on the building.

“I am legally permitted to carry my firearm in Washington, D.C. and within the Capitol complex,” Boebert tweeted after reports that she was in a “standoff” with Capitol Police over a bag that she wanted to bring into the chambers.

Boebert then decried the new system and said, “Metal detectors outside of the House would not have stopped the violence we saw last week — it’s just another political stunt by Speaker Pelosi.”

Later, Boebert responded to a now deleted tweet that appeared to be issued by New York Times editor Jonathan Weisman and said that she has a “concealed carry permit” that was “issued by the District of Columbia Metropolitan Police.”

“It seems you are the one who is incorrect,” Boebert added and she must have been correct based on the backtrack by Weisman.

Sen. Chris Murphy (D-CT) attempted to use the metal detectors to get a political dig in at Republicans in an earlier tweet.

“There is an active insurrection occurring in your country. The 60 second inconvenience of walking through a metal detector is not the most important thing right now,” Murphy claimed.

House Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) and member of “The Squad” also attempted to use the situation to criticize Republicans in an attempt to call them hypocritical.

AOC insisted in a tweet, “All these GOP ‘pro-police’ slogans were never actually [about] safety. It was always [about] upholding a system of state violence that targets Black [people] & [people] of color.”

“You can tell by how regularly GOP members defend crimes, reject accountability, & push officers when *they* want to,” she concluded.
