Boebert Slams Biden ‘Regime’ For Extending Canadian Border Closure While the ‘Southern Border is Wide Open’

It was reported yesterday that the United States has announced that it will be extending the restriction on non-essential travel at its land border with Canada.

U.S. House Rep Lauren Boebert (R-CO) slammed the Biden “regime” for extending the Canadian border closure while the “southern border is wide open.”

Boebert said in a tweet, “The Biden regime just extended America’s border closure with Canada to prevent the spread of COVID-19.”

“Meanwhile, our southern border is wide open and millions of illegal immigrants, many with COVID, are invading the country,” Boebert added.

The Canadian land border travel ban was originally set to expire today and the announcement was made yesterday by White House Covid-19 coordinator Jeff Zients.

Even though the Canadian government has opened its land border to vaccinated Americans as of August 9, the U.S. ban on non-essential travel at land borders continues.

U.S. House Rep Brian Higgins (D-NY) decried the move in a statement yesterday as well, meaning that there is bipartisan outcry at this point.

Higgins said in the statement, “Canada’s reopening of the border to Americans represented progress in our fight to reconnect with Canadian neighbors, but we need action on the U.S. side. Continued closure of the U.S. land border to vaccinated Canadians is completely unnecessary & unexplained.”

When the ban was first extended to September 21, U.S. Travel Association Executive Vice President of Public Affairs and Policy Tori Emerson Barnes explained the economic loss of the closure in a statement.

“For each month the status quo continues at the Canadian border, America’s No. 1 source market of inbound arrivals, the United States loses $1.5 billion in potential travel exports, leaving countless American businesses vulnerable,” Barnes noted.
