Candace Cameron Bure Announces Great American Family will Stick to Traditional Marriage, Backlash Mounts

Candace Cameron Bure announced a few days ago that Great American Family “will keep rational marriage at the core.” This came after she was asked if same-sex love stories would be a part of the network.

“My heart wants to tell stories that have more meaning and purpose and depth behind them,” she added.

In April of this year, she announced she was leaving Hallmark media and was following Bill Abbott, former CEO of Crown Meda, Hallmark’s parent company, to his new company GAF.

Abbott left Hallmarker after controversy over censoring a commercial that featured two brides kissing.

After Bure’s comments backlash mounted, leading it was Hilarie Burton Morgan and Jojo Siwa.

Morgan tweeted, “Now they’re just openly admitting their bigotry. I called this shit out years ago when Abbott was at Hallmark. Glad they dumped him. Being LGBTQ isn’t a “trend”. That guy and his network are disgusting. You too Candy. There is nothing untraditional about same-sex couples.”

She also shared, “Bigot. I don’t remember Jesus liking hypocrites like Candy. But sure. Make your money, honey. You ride that prejudice wave all the way to the bank.”

Pop star Jojo Siwa joined in and posted to Instagram, “honestly, I can’t believe after everything that went down just a few months ago, that she would not only create a movie with intention of excluding LGBTQIA+, but then also talk about it in the press. This is rude and hurtful to a whole community of people.”

Bure gave a statement to People over the backlash from her comments:

“All of you who know me, know beyond question that I have great love and affection for all people. It absolutely breaks my heart that anyone would ever think I intentionally would want to offend and hurt anyone,” says Bure, 46. “It saddens me that the media is often seeking to divide us, even around a subject as comforting and merry as Christmas movies. But, given the toxic climate in our culture right now, I shouldn’t be surprised. We need Christmas more than ever.”

“I am a devoted Christian. Which means that I believe that every human being bears the image of God. Because of that, I am called to love all people, and I do. If you know me, you know that I am a person who loves fiercely and indiscriminately,” she continues. “My heart yearns to build bridges and bring people one step closer to God, to love others well, and to simply be a reflection of God’s huge love for all of us.”

Her statement continued, she directly addressed those who have criticized her and told them she loves them.

Bure is standing with biblical marriage, she did not attack LGBTQ+ only shared that GAF wouldn’t be including it in their programming. That isn’t enough for some, they feel hurt and have lashed out.

We look forward to seeing the program GAF puts out this Christmas.

  1. The mentally unstable have way too much queer programming clogging up my television. NO! It is NOT normal. It is an abomination and people like that need treatment to fix their imbalance. Jesus said to love the sinner but condemn the sin. If I owned my own network guess what?! I get to choose what is put out and I would never bow to the unstable and sexually immoral.
